Review of New Android Donut Features

Summary: Here at G1 Market News.com we just got our Android donut, and the new features are stunning. A gorgeous new market interface, a similarly stunning new camera UI, system-wide search, and more. There is also rumour of being able to draw "gestures" on the screen to allow jumping down in a list - such as drawing an M in contacts to jump to bypass contacts starting with the letters A through L, and going directly to the "M" listings - however we haven't been able to make that work yet.

Here at G1 Market News.com we just got our “over the air” (OTA) Android 1.6 update (otherwise known as the Android Donut update), and the new features are stunning. A gorgeous new market interface, a similarly stunning new camera UI, system-wide search, and more. There is also rumour of being able to draw “gestures” on the screen to allow jumping down in a list – such as drawing an M in contacts to jump to bypass contacts starting with the letters A through L, and going directly to the “M” listings – however we haven’t been able to make that work yet.

The new market UI (user interface) is really excellent. It sports a crisp white background, and screenshots of all of the applications and games! And it’s much faster.

Similarly, the camera has had more than just a facelift! Now with beautiful onscreen controls – including switching between video and still mode right on the screen, the camera now seems much zippier, especially when loading.

New search functionality is included as well. The Google search widget now offers predictive text suggestions as you are typing your search term, and Donut provides you with the ability to perform a native universal search across your phone – including bookmarks and even some application data.
